Medieval Adventure June 21, 1998

(rough summation of last few adventures)
- group decides to go to a mountain-side Inn
(that they didn't notice before) after Giants heaved
rocks at them and "injured some of the 24-plus" workers
traveling with them. (soon a standard theme)
Birch Branch is suspicious of this place, and
stays in the stable. Others go inside, and drink the beer.
Soon party-members start oozing into the wall and feeling woozy.
Some party members come to their senses (tho not Brother Carmichael)
and by thin luck battle their way out (even Birch,etc had to battle
out of "stables". It becomes apparent it was some oozing giant
slow-moving creature, out to digest us.
The party slogs on, over the top of the Mountains.
Frost-Giants on another peak spy us, and hustle toward us.
The group hustles on, but its a well placed "grease" spell
on a mountain-trail corner by ______ (Dag?) that slips a
few giants off the cliff. (yay!)
Eventually, a river is reached, with a large island
in the middle of it, complete with a keep/castle.
The groups ropes/horse-fords across. The occasional Birch and
Brother Carmichael and Bomarc loose footing and/or horse.
Reaching the island, our hero's are met with arrows. A fight
with some Orcs ensue, and there are vanquished. More Orcs seem
to be around, so the party goes back across the river.
A ford is found, and the whole group (with 24-plus)
goes back to island, and storms the Keep. After taking some arrows,
the door is busted open. Up the stairs, a main roon is taken.
During this time three Orcs are captured, and the Paladin
suggests killing them. Action stops as The Paladin and the GM have some
discussions about what Paladins do and don't do.
Dag Nabbit happily solves problem by killing orcs himself.
Then everyone troops downstairs. Its cold. Someone notes dripping
blood sucks into the floor. A few set out exploring. Battle-sounds are
heard. Orcs in basement are heard retreating from "something" very fast.
Our entire group fears, and leaves castle and re-crosses river to west?
side once again. A quick moving mist approaches. A big thing is heard
stomping near, crosses river and stomps close by all. Big tracks imply
a giant stomped by. Horses, mules and the "24-plus" are freaked,
want to go back to home. But "cooler heads" prevail, and the "oh so wise"
decision to re-cross the river is made. But..only after we had seen the
Orcs beat a somewhat organized retreat out of the keep and all head
cross the river and to the east, as trouble or something was brewing.
(so we heard..from one of them)
The groups goes back in the Keep. The Herald (guy from the guy
who hired us) has maps of the Keep. Three folks (Bomarc, Dag and Birch)
accompany woodsman down to forest to cut a tree to bar the door.
Noises are heard in water and on land. Thick mist still obscures everything.
Tentacles appear slithering thru grass. One by one the three are grasped
and fight or help each other fight out of the tentacles. The woodsmen
chop furiously and start dragging the tree uphill by mule. Some tentacles
stop the tree. More tentacle-chopping. Bomarc is pinned by tentacle
and is being dragged towards waters-edge. Dag gets in similar predicament.
Birch is able to get both of them. But Bomarc is at a grey-skinned -9
and Dag and later Birch are staggering at Zero, but make it away.
Back at the Keep, a "24-plus"er goes missing, one Trevor.
Salin, (shayne) and (ritchie) head off to investigate. Someone calls his name.
He is heard, terrified, somewhere below. Off to a main, not well lit room,
(shayne) pops head down a duct and see Trevor being dragged away by a
shape-shifting arm thing. Quickly lashing a rope, (shayne) scrambles down duct
and gets a grab on Trevor. He looses a magic missle on the creature
and due to magic "node" under Keep, its like, more powerful or something.
The creature loosens grip, and those above yank (shayne) and Trevor
to safety. The registers where the ducts come out to floor are then covered.
By then, the oh-so-successful wood-party has staggered back.
It seems their is great-evil-river-tentacle-beast in the river,
something evil in the basement, and the fog-itself seems to pool into evilness.
